Precautions and warnings

Like other anti-infective medicines, using this for a long time may cause other germs, such as fungi, to grow. If a new infection develops, stop using this medicine and use a different treatment. To avoid contamination, do not let the tip of the dropper touch your eye, eyelid, or any surface. Always keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

Side-effects

  • Burning
  • dry or itching eyes; change in vision; eye discharge; pain in eye; redness of eye; swelling of eye
  • eyelid
  • or inner lining of eyelid; tearing.

Drug Interactions

Using this medication with other drugs that also prolong the QT interval (such as erythromycin, certain antidepressants, or antipsychotic medications) can increase the risk of heart rhythm problems. Drugs that contain aluminum or magnesium (such as some antacids), or iron or zinc supplements, can lower how much of this medication your body absorbs, making it less effective. Taking this medicine with corticosteroids can raise the risk of serious tendon problems, especially in people over 60 years old. Sucralfate or didanosine can also reduce how well this medicine is absorbed.

**Warning:** Taking this medication together with certain antiarrhythmic drugs (like quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, or sotalol), or other drugs that can prolong the QT interval, can greatly increase the risk of dangerous heart rhythm problems.

Contraindications

People who are allergic to Moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any ingredient in this medicine should not take it.

Mode of actions

Moxifloxacin works by blocking two enzymes, topoisomerase II (also called DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, which bacteria need to copy, repair, and use their DNA. This stops the bacteria from growing and multiplying.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and children (1 year of age and older)
1 drop in infected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.

Children up to 1 year of age
Use and dose must be determined by doctor.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
