Precautions and warnings

Be cautious when using this medicine in elderly people, weak patients, children, people with epilepsy, heart or breathing problems, those in shock, liver issues, or myasthenia gravis. Don’t rub or touch your eye while it is numb. Avoid using the medicine for too long or on large areas of the body. Use with care during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Do not use if there is a complete heart block or a pus-producing infection on or near the skin. Avoid applying the medication to inflamed, infected, or damaged skin or mucous membranes. Do not put it into the middle ear.

Mode of actions

Cinchocaine works by blocking or reducing nerve signals near where it is applied, so you feel less pain. It also stabilizes nerve cell membranes by making them less able to let sodium ions in, which helps stop nerve impulses.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid mainly used to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system. It works by stopping certain white blood cells (called polymorphonuclear leukocytes) from moving to areas of inflammation, and by reducing the leakiness of blood vessels. Sometimes, it is also used as a replacement for people whose bodies do not make enough natural corticosteroids.

Neomycin is an antibiotic from the aminoglycoside group. It kills bacteria by attaching to their ribosomes (parts of the cell that make proteins), blocking protein production, and causing mistakes in the bacteria’s genetic code, which leads to cell death. It is effective against many types of gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria, but not against fungi, viruses, or most bacteria that don’t need oxygen to grow (anaerobes).

Dosage & Administration

Adult: Up to 1% in cream and ointment.Adult: As 0.05% w/w ointment (in combination with hydrocortisone): Apply onto the affected area in the morning and evening and after each stool.

As suppository containing 5 mg/unit (in combination with hydrocortisone): Insert 1 suppository in the morning and evening and after each stool.

Pregnancy & Lactation

FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.

Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.

If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.


There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
