Drug Interactions

Some medications—such as antiepileptics, oral contraceptives, anti-tuberculosis drugs, alcohol, aminopterin, methotrexate, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, and sulphonamides—can lower the amount of folate in the blood. They may also decrease the level of phenytoin in the blood.
According to the US FDA pregnancy categories, drugs like quinolones, tetracyclines, cisplatin, and penicillamine have specific considerations.
Also, the drug amiloride can interact with zinc.

Contraindications

Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Also, do not take folic acid if you have a vitamin B12 (cobalamine) deficiency that is not being treated.

Mode of actions

Folic acid: This vitamin is needed to make and repair DNA and to keep red blood cell production normal. In the body, mainly in the liver and blood, folic acid changes into its active form, called tetrahydrofolic acid, with the help of an enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase. Folic acid is especially important for women who could become pregnant, as it helps prevent birth defects in the baby's brain and spine. Pregnant women need higher amounts of folic acid.

Zinc: Zinc helps over 100 enzymes in the body work properly. It is important for making DNA, supporting the immune system, and keeping your senses of smell and taste normal. Zinc may also help insulin work as it should.

Dosage & Administration

One tablet daily or as directed by the physician.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy and there is not enough evidence of risk in later trimesters.
