Precautions and warnings
Tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have liver disease or lupus, before using this drug.
Some symptoms could be warning indications of a more serious ailment. If you have heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating, or dizziness, chest or shoulder pain, or unexplained weight loss, seek medical attention immediately away.
Proton pump inhibitors may increase your chance of bone fractures, especially if you use them for a long time, at larger doses, or if you're older. Discuss strategies to avoid bone fractures with your doctor or pharmacist, such as taking calcium and vitamin D supplements.

Drug Interactions
Methotrexate is a product that may interact with this medicine.
Some products require stomach acid to be adequately absorbed by the body. Pantoprazole reduces stomach acid, hence it may affect the effectiveness of these medications. Ampicillin, atazanavir, erlotinib, nelfinavir, pazopanib, rilpivirine, some azole antifungals, itraconazole, ketoconazole, and posaconazole are among the products affected.
Contraindications
A mother who feeds her newborn breast milk. Delayed-release tablets are not recommended for patients who have a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the formulation.
Mode of actions
Pantoprazole, often known as PPI, is a substituted benzimidazole that blocks the final phase of acid secretion by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in the stomach parietal cell. Acid is blocked at both the basal and stimulated levels.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: PO The usual recommended adult oral dose is 40 mg given once daily, before breakfast. The duration of therapy is ranging from 2-8 weeks.
Peptic ulcer: 40 mg/day in the morning. Duration: Duodenal ulceration: 2-4 wk; Benign gastric ulceration: 4-8 wk.
GERD: 40 mg tablet, once daily in the morning for 4 to 8 weeks. In resistant ulcers: 40 mg tablet, once daily for 8 weeks. Ulcers induced by NSAIDs: 40 mg tablet once daily, in patients receiving continuous treatment with NSAIDs.
GI bleeding from stress or acid peptic diseases: Usual adult oral dosage, if required the dosage may be increased. H. pylori infection: 40 mg twice daily w/ clarithromycin and either amoxicillin or metronidazole.
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 160 mg tablets per day. Once control of acid secretion has been achieved, the dose should be gradually reduced.
Prophylaxis for acid aspiration syndrome during induction of anaesthesia: 40-80 mg tablet should be given the evening before surgery and repeated again the morning of surgery.
IV Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory states As Na salt: 80 mg/day. Max: 240 mg/day in divided doses if rapid control required. GERD; Peptic ulcer As Na salt: 40 mg/day until PO can be resumed.
Maintenance therapy
Maintenance treatment should involve the lowest dose of the drug. Both 20 and 40 mg doses of Pantoprazole are safe and effective in maintaining patients with healed reflux esophagitis and PUD in remission.
Elder patient: No problems with Pantoprazole have been encountered in clinical use in this patient group.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.
