Drug Interactions

Using this with aminoglycosides can raise the risk of ear damage (ototoxicity).

Contraindications

Do not use if you have a history of allergy; are pregnant or breastfeeding; have allergies to other platinum-based medicines; have severe bone marrow problems; have serious bleeding issues; or if aluminium-containing needles and IV sets are required.

Mode of actions

Carboplatin is a type of medicine that attaches firmly to DNA in cells. By changing the DNA’s structure and how it works, it disrupts the normal cycle of cell growth.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: IV As single agent in treatment-naive patients: 400 mg/m2; As single agent in previously treated patients: 360 mg/m2; W/ cyclophosphamide in treatment-naive patients: 300 mg/m2. Doses to be given not more frequently than every 4 wk. Adjust subsequent doses based on nadir of WBC and platelet counts.

Renal impairment:

>40 Recommended dose: 400 mg/m2.
20-39 Recommended dose: 250 mg/m2.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
