Precautions and warnings
Patients with stomach and duodenal ulcers, as well as convulsive disorders, should use ambroxol with caution. It should be used with caution by patients who have hepatic or renal impairment.

Contraindications
Ambroxol or Bromhexine hypersensitivity is contraindicated.
Mode of actions
Ambroxol is a Bromhexine metabolite. Mucokinetic (improves mucus transport) and secretolytic (liquefies secretions) characteristics are both present. Ambroxol increases mucus secretion by stimulating the serous cells of the glands of the mucous membrane of the bronchi. The mucolytic action is caused by the depolymerization and breaking of mucoproteins and mucopolysaccharide fibres, resulting in a decrease in mucus viscosity. Mucus expectoration is aided, and breathing is made much easier. Ambroxol promotes alveolar cell synthesis of surfactant phospholipids. Ambroxol is an anti-inflammatory substance. It improves airway patency in COPD patients.
Dosage & Administration
Paediatric Drops :
0 - 6 months old - 0.5 ml, 2 times a day,
6 - 12 months old - 1 ml, 2 times a day,
1 - 2 years old -1.25 ml, 2 times a day.
Syrup : 2 -5 years old - 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoonful), 2-3 times a day,
5 - 10 years old - 5 ml (1 teaspoonful), 2-3 times a day,
10 years old and adults - 10 ml (2 teaspoonful), 3 times a day.
SR Capsule : Adults and children over 12 years old - 1 capsule, once daily
Pregnancy & Lactation
FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.
Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.
If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.
There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
