Nitazoxanide is a type of antiprotozoal medication. In sensitive species, both nitazoxanide and its active metabolite (tizoxanide) interfere with the pyruvate:ferredoxin 2-oxidoreductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer process, which is required for anaerobic metabolism.
Age 1 - 3 years : 5 ml (100 mg) twice daily for 3 days, Age 4 - 11 years : 10 ml (200 mg) twice daily for 3 days, Age >12 years : 25 ml or 1 tablet (500 mg) twice daily for 3 days.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.
