Drug Interactions

Do not use this medication together with non-selective MAOIs or selective MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitors. It is also not recommended to use it with alcohol, carbamazepine, other enzyme inducers, or opioid agonist-antagonist drugs. Use caution and consider possible interactions if taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), triptans, other opioids, anxiety medications, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, sedative antidepressants, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics, centrally-acting blood pressure medicines, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), thalidomide, baclofen, warfarin-like drugs, ketoconazole, erythromycin, bupropion, or ondansetron.

Contraindications

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to tramadol, paracetamol, or other opioids. It should also be avoided in situations where opioids are not recommended, such as if you are intoxicated with alcohol, sleeping pills, certain painkillers, other opioids, or psychiatric medications. Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems or uncontrolled epilepsy. It should also not be used at the same time as MAOIs (a type of antidepressant), or within two weeks after stopping them.

Mode of actions

Tramadol is a pain reliever that works by attaching to certain receptors in the brain and also slightly blocking the reabsorption of chemicals called norepinephrine and serotonin. Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, helps reduce pain and fever and has mild anti-inflammatory effects. When tramadol and paracetamol are used together, they start working faster than tramadol alone and their pain-relieving effects last longer than paracetamol alone.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: PO >12 yr: Per tab contains tramadol HCl 37.5 mg and paracetamol 325 mg: 2 tab 6 hrly. Max: 8 tab/day.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
