Precautions and warnings

Tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have had a heart attack or a life-threatening irregular heartbeat in the previous 6 months, chest pain, heart failure, kidney disease, liver disease, high or low blood pressure, dehydration, penis conditions, history of painful prolonged erection , or if you have had a stroke (such as retinitis pigmentosa, sudden decreased vision, NAION).

This medication has the potential to make you dizzy or cause visual difficulties. You may become dizzy if you consume alcohol or cannabis. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform any other activity that requires alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can do so safely. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. If you use cannabis, talk to your doctor.

Drug Interactions

Riociguat is a product that may interact with this medication.

Potentiates the hypotensive effects of organic nitrates and nicorandil, which could be fatal.

Contraindications

Intolerance to the active component. Organic nitrates in any form are being used concurrently or intermittently by patients.

Mode of actions

Phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5), which is responsible for cGMP breakdown in the corpus cavernosum, is inhibited by sildenafil. PDE5 inhibition raises cGMP levels in the corpus cavernosum, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and blood flow to the cavernosum.

Dosage & Administration

Oral
Erectile dysfunction
Adult: 50 mg about 1 hr before sexual intercourse. May adjust dose depending on penile response. Max: 100 mg/dose and not to be taken > once in 24 hr.
Elderly: >65 yr: Lower initial dose at 25 mg.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.
