Precautions and warnings

Increased pathogenicity of specific microbes, as well as possible negative effects on prognosis in HIV-positive people; not suggested for people who don't have a confirmed iron deficiency. Fixed Combination is used.

Consider the cautions, precautions, and contraindications associated with the concurrent agents when taken in a fixed combination with other agents.

Contraindications

Patients who have a history of hypersensitivity to one or more of the components. Hemochromatosis is a kind of primary hemochromatosis. Ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer, or regional enteritis

Mode of actions

Iron: An vital component in the synthesis of hemoglobin; sufficient levels of iron are required for successful erythropoiesis; also functions as a cofactor for several critical enzymes, including electron-transporting cytochromes. Iron stocks in hemoglobin, myoglobin, and enzymes are replaced, and hemoglobin is used to transport oxygen.

Vitamin C is required for collagen synthesis and tissue repair; it also participates in oxidation/reduction events and other metabolic pathways, such as the manufacture of catecholamines, carnitine, and steroids; and it aids in the conversion of folic acid to folinic acid.

Copper is a cofactor in a number of enzymes, including ceruloplasmin, and is involved in the synthesis of transferrin, an iron carrier protein. Aids in the maintenance of normal red and white blood cell production and the prevention of deficient symptoms.

Dosage & Administration

Premature or low-birth weight infants: 2-4 mg/kg daily starting preferably at 1 month, but at least by 2 months, of age. Do not exceed 15 mg daily.

Normal full-term infants who are not breast-fed or are only partially breast-fed: 1 mg/kg daily, preferably as iron-fortified formula, starting at birth and continuing during the first year of life.Do not exceed 15 mg daily.

Children 10 years of age who have begun their pubertal growth spurt may require daily iron supplementation of 2 or 5 mg daily in males or females, respectively.

Pregnancy & Lactation

FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.

Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.

If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.


There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
