Side-effects

Drug Interactions

Neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, H2-blockers, and colchicine can decrease absorption in the digestive tract. Oral contraceptives can lower blood levels of this medication. If you have anemia and are using injectable chloramphenicol, the effects of this medicine may be reduced.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of this product.

Mode of actions

Mecobalamin is the active form of vitamin B12 that works in the nervous system. It is a water-soluble vitamin found in the body. Mecobalamin helps an enzyme called methionine synthase, which transfers methyl groups and helps turn homocysteine into methionine. In cases of anemia, mecobalamin boosts the production of red blood cells by supporting the creation of genetic material (nucleic acids) in the bone marrow and helping red blood cells grow and divide.

Dosage & Administration

Tablet :The usual adult dosage is one 500 mcg tablet three times daily. The dosage should be adjusted according to the age of patient and the severity of symptoms.

Injection :Peripheral neuropathies: The usual adult dosage is one ampoule equivalent to 500 mcg of Mecobalamin, administered intramuscularly or intravenously three times a week.The dosage should be adjusted according to the age of patient and the severity of symptoms.

Megaloblastic anemia: The usual adult dosage is one ampoule equivalent to 500 mcg of Mecobalamin, administered intramuscularly or intravenously three times a week. After about two months of administration, dosage should be changed to one ampoule equivalent to 500 mcg of Mecobalamin every one to three months as maintenance therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation

FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.

Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.

If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.


There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
