Precautions and warnings

Before using Minoxidil, make sure your scalp is healthy and normal. If you have heart disease or irregular heartbeat, talk to your doctor before using Minoxidil. Be careful because Minoxidil has alcohol in it, which can burn or irritate your eyes. If Minoxidil accidentally gets in your eyes, on broken skin, or on other sensitive areas, rinse the area right away with lots of cool water.

Drug Interactions

Other medications that lower blood pressure can increase the antihypertensive effect.
For topical use: Absorption of the drug may be higher if used with corticosteroids, retinoids, or ointments that create a barrier on the skin.
Warning: Taking this medication with guanethidine can cause dangerously low blood pressure when standing up (severe orthostatic hypotension).

Contraindications

Minoxidil topical solution should not be used by people who have ever had an allergic reaction to Minoxidil or to any of the other ingredients in the product, like propylene glycol or ethanol.

Mode of actions

Minoxidil is a medication used to lower high blood pressure because it helps widen blood vessels. When taken for blood pressure, it can cause the heart to beat faster, increase blood pumped by the heart, and raise certain hormone levels. When used on the scalp, minoxidil helps promote hair growth by improving blood flow to the skin and activating hair follicles that were not growing.

Dosage & Administration

Apply 1 ml solution to the scalp bid. 4 mth of treatment may be necessary.

Hair and scalp should be thoroughly dry prior to topical application of Minoxidil. A dose of 1 ml Minoxidil cutaneous solution should be applied to the total affected areas of the scalp twice daily. The total dosage should not exceed 2 ml. If fingertips are used to facilitate drug application, hands should be washed afterwards.

It should be used twice daily for four months or more before evidence of hair growth can be expected.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
