Mometasone Furoate Similar medicine
Be careful when using this medicine if you have or have had tuberculosis (active or inactive), an eye infection caused by the herpes simplex virus, or any untreated widespread infection.
The risk of low potassium levels (hypokalaemia) is higher if you take this medicine with amphotericin B or potassium-wasting diuretics. It can also make antidiabetic drugs less effective at lowering blood sugar. Taking it with antifungal medicines (like imidazoles) can raise its levels in your blood. Using it with fluoroquinolones increases the chance of tendon problems.
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Mometasone reduces the production and activity of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, such as histamine and prostaglandins. It also stops immune cells from moving to the site of injury and helps blood vessels return to normal, which means fewer inflammatory cells can reach the injured area.
Nasal Treatment and prophylaxis of allergic rhinitis Adults: 100 mcg (2 sprays) in each nostril once daily, increased to 200 mcg into each nostril once daily if needed. Maintenance: 50 mcg in each nostril daily.
Child: 2-11 yr: 50 mcg (1 spray) in each nostril daily; Child: >12 yr: 100 mcg in each nostril daily.
Nasal polyps Adult: 100 mcg (2 sprays) in each nostril once daily; may increase to bid after 5-6 wk if needed.
Inhalation Asthma prophylaxis Adult: Mild to moderate: Initially, 400 mcg once daily in the evening. Maintenance: 200 mcg once to bid. Severe: Initially, 400 mcg bid, then titrated to lowest effective dose once controlled.
Child: Mild to moderate: Initially, 400 mcg once daily. Maintenance: 200 mcg once to bid. Severe: Initially, 400 mcg bid, then titrated to lowest effective dose once controlled.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
