Pemirolast is a medication that helps prevent allergic reactions by stopping certain cells, called mast cells, from releasing substances that cause allergy symptoms. It reduces the movement of eosinophils, a type of immune cell, into the eye and blocks the release of chemicals that lead to allergies. Pemirolast also stops calcium from entering mast cells after they are triggered by allergens. Besides treating eye allergies, it has also been used to help manage chronic asthma and to prevent allergic nose symptoms (allergic rhinitis).
