Zelanex is indicated for
- Allergic rhinitis
- vasomotor rhinitis.
Precautions and warnings
The occurrence of somnolence in certain patients taking Azelastine Hydrochloride Nasal Spray has been recorded in clinical trials; caution should be exercised when driving a car or operating potentially harmful machinery. Concurrent use of Azelastine Hydrochloride Nasal Spray with Alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided because it may induce extra alertness loss and CNS performance degradation.

- somnolence
- dry mouth.
Contraindications
Azelastine Hydrochloride or any of its components are known to cause hypersensitivity.
Mode of actions
Azelastine decreases the production of inflammatory mediators from mast cells by blocking histamine H1-receptor activation.
Dosage & Administration
Nasal Rhinitis: Children 5 years to 11 years of age: One spray into each nostril twice daily.
Adults and children 12 years of age and older: Two sprays per nostril twice daily.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
