Cilostazol is a medicine that blocks an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-III (PDE-III) in a selective and reversible way. By doing this, it stops the breakdown of a substance in the body called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). Higher levels of cAMP in blood platelets and blood vessels prevent platelets from clumping together and help blood vessels relax and widen. Additionally, cilostazol stops cells from taking up adenosine, which further boosts cAMP levels due to its effect on PDE-III.
