Precautions and warnings
People with kidney or liver problems, narrow-angle glaucoma, epilepsy, enlarged prostate, bladder blockage, asthma, or COPD should use caution. This medicine may make it unsafe to drive or use machines.

Drug Interactions
Taking this medication with opiates, other painkillers, barbiturates, sedatives, or anesthesia can increase their effects on the central nervous system, making you feel more drowsy or sedated. MAOIs and TCAs can also increase the antimuscarinic side effects of this medicine.
Contraindications
Porphyria, neonates, pregnancy, lactation.
Mode of actions
Hydroxyzine is a type of medicine called a piperazine derivative that works by blocking histamine H1-receptors found in the digestive tract, blood vessels, and breathing passages. It is a sedating antihistamine, meaning it can make you feel sleepy, and it also has antimuscarinic effects. Besides treating allergies, hydroxyzine can relax muscles, help open airways, reduce nausea, and provide some pain relief.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: PO Anxiety 50-100 mg 4 times/day. Pruritus Initial: 25 mg at night, up to 25 mg 3-4 times/day. Adjunct to pre- or post-op sedation 50-100 mg. IM Prompt control of anxiety or agitation Initial: 50-100 mg, may repeat 4-6 hrly if needed.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
