Minoxidil 5% Similar medicine
Before using Minoxidil, make sure your scalp is healthy and in good condition. If you have heart problems or irregular heartbeat, talk to your doctor before using Minoxidil. The product contains alcohol, which can burn or irritate your eyes. If Minoxidil accidentally gets in your eyes, on broken skin, or on other sensitive areas, rinse the area with plenty of cool tap water right away.
The blood pressure-lowering effect can be stronger if you take other medications that also lower blood pressure. When used on the skin, this medicine may be absorbed more if you also use corticosteroids, retinoids, or ointments that keep the area covered.
Warning: Taking this medicine with guanethidine can sometimes cause very serious drops in blood pressure when you stand up.
Minoxidil topical solution should not be used by people who are allergic to Minoxidil or any of its other ingredients, like propylene glycol or ethanol.
Minoxidil is a medication used to lower high blood pressure because it relaxes and widens blood vessels. When it lowers blood pressure, the body may react with a faster heartbeat, increased heart pumping, and higher levels of a hormone called renin. When minoxidil is applied to the scalp, it helps hair grow by improving blood flow to the skin and activating resting hair follicles.
Apply 1 ml solution to the scalp bid. 4 mth of treatment may be necessary.
Hair and scalp should be thoroughly dry prior to topical application of Minoxidil. A dose of 1 ml Minoxidil cutaneous solution should be applied to the total affected areas of the scalp twice daily. The total dosage should not exceed 2 ml. If fingertips are used to facilitate drug application, hands should be washed afterwards.
It should be used twice daily for four months or more before evidence of hair growth can be expected.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
