The body absorbs tolfenamic acid faster when taken with metoclopramide or magnesium hydroxide, but slower with aluminium hydroxide. When used with blood thinners or other NSAIDs, there is a higher risk of bleeding. Tolfenamic acid can make blood pressure medicines like loop diuretics, beta-blockers, and ACE inhibitors less effective. Taking it together with lithium, methotrexate, or heart medications can raise the levels of these drugs in the blood. There is also a higher risk of kidney damage if tolfenamic acid is used with ACE inhibitors, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, or diuretics.
Do not use if you are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Avoid if you have an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or liver problems, or if you are in the third trimester of pregnancy.
