Haes Steril 10% is indicated for

  • Hypovolaemia

Precautions and warnings

Mild allergic reactions—like flu-like symptoms, slow or fast heartbeat, trouble breathing, or fluid in the lungs—have been reported with hydroxyethyl starch solutions. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop the drug right away and treat the symptoms until they go away. During treatment, regularly check the patient’s fluid balance and how fast the drug is being given, especially if the patient has heart or kidney problems. For patients who are severely dehydrated, start with a crystalloid solution. Always make sure patients get enough fluids to prevent dehydration. Be very careful when giving hydroxyethyl starch in sodium chloride injection to patients with serious liver problems or severe bleeding disorders like von Willebrand’s disease.

Contraindications

Do not use hydroxyethyl starch if you are allergic to it. Mode of actions

Dosage & Administration

Adult Dose Up to 50 mL of (hydroxyethyl starch in sodium chloride injection) per kg of body weight per day (equivalent to 3 g hydroxyethyl starch and 7.7 mEq sodium per kg of body weight). This dose is equivalent to 3500 mL of (hydroxyethyl starch in sodium chloride injection) for a 70 kg patient.

Pediatric Dose
Dosage in children should be adapted to the individual patient colloid needs, taking into account the disease state, as well as the hemodynamic and hydration status

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
