Strong-acting diuretics (such as furosemide) and aminoglycosides are likely to be more nephrotoxic when taken with this medication. It may also help oral anticoagulants work better.
It's possible that OCs' efficacy will be reduced. Cefuroxime excretion is prolonged by probenecid, resulting in a higher peak serum level.
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient to cephalosporins.
Mode of actions
Cefuroxime binds to one or more penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits the last transpeptidation stage of peptidoglycan formation in bacterial cell walls, halting biosynthesis and causing bacterial cell death.
Clavulanic acid has a high affinity for and binds to specific lactamases that inactivate Cefuroxime by hydrolyzing its lactam ring, in addition to inhibiting beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. When Cefuroxime is combined with clavulanate potassium, the antibacterial spectrum of Cefuroxime is expanded to encompass numerous bacteria that are resistant to Cefuroxime and other penicillins and cephalosporins.
