Fluorometholone Acetate 0.1% Eye prep Similar medicine
Glaucoma: Regularly check eye pressure in patients with glaucoma.
History of Infections: Do not use if there is a history of herpes simplex, fungal, or bacterial eye infections.
Contraindications: This medicine should not be used for mustard gas keratitis or Sjogren's keratoconjunctivitis.
Side Effects: It can cause the cornea or sclera (parts of the eye) to become thinner, which in severe cases may lead to a hole forming in the eye.
Post-Surgery: Using steroids after cataract surgery may slow down healing and increase the risk of bleb formation.
Special Populations: Use with caution during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in children.
Viral diseases affecting the cornea and conjunctiva include conditions like herpes simplex keratitis (also called dendritic keratitis), Vaccinia, and Varicella. Eye infections can also be caused by mycobacteria or fungi, and leaving any eye infection untreated can make things worse. In some cases, hypersensitivity (an overreaction of the immune system) can occur as well.
Fluorometholone helps reduce inflammation by stopping certain white blood cells from moving to the affected area and by preventing fluids from leaking out of blood vessels.
Adult: Ophth As 0.1% soln: Instil 1-2 drops 2-4 times/day. May increase dose to 4 hrly in severe cases during the initial 24-48 hr.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
