Precautions and warnings
Drink enough fluids while taking this medicine. Avoid strong sunlight or sunlamps. Use with caution if you have epilepsy, any central nervous system (CNS) problems, or diabetes. This medication is not recommended if you have severe liver problems. It can make myasthenia gravis worse. Stop using it right away if you feel tendon pain or notice swelling or a rupture. There is a high chance of resistance if you have Staphylococcus aureus infections. The risk of tendon problems is even higher in elderly people, especially those taking corticosteroids. Be careful if you have heart rhythm problems, such as slow heartbeat, a history of heart attack, long QT interval, heart failure, or low potassium. Do not use this medicine with other drugs that can also prolong the QT interval. Taking this medicine for a long time can increase the risk of other infections, including fungal or bacterial superinfections.

Drug Interactions
Taking this medication with other drugs that also prolong the QT interval (like erythromycin, certain antidepressants, or antipsychotic medications) can further increase the risk of QT interval prolongation. If you take antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, or supplements with iron or zinc, your body may absorb less of this medication. Using corticosteroids at the same time can raise the risk of serious tendon problems, especially in people over 60. Sucralfate or didanosine can also lower how much of this medication your body absorbs.
Warning: Taking this medication along with certain heart rhythm drugs (like quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, or sotalol) or any other drugs that prolong the QT interval can dangerously increase the risk of QT interval prolongation, which could be life-threatening.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; child, adolescent; pregnancy, lactation.
Mode of actions
Moxifloxacin works by blocking the action of two enzymes, topoisomerase II (also called DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are essential for bacteria to copy, repair, and read their DNA. By stopping these enzymes, moxifloxacin prevents bacteria from growing and spreading.
Dosage & Administration
• The dose of Moxifloxacin is 400 mg once every 24 hours. The duration of therapy depends on the type of infection as described bellow-•
In Acute Bacterial Sinusitis Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 10 days.• In Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 5 days.
• In Community Acquired Pneumonia Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 7-14 days.
• In Uncomplicated Skin & Skin Structure infections Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 7 days.• In Complicated Skin & Skin Structure infections Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 7-21 days.• In Complicated Intra-Abdominal infections Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 5-14 days.
• In Typhoid Fever Moxifloxacin 400 mg is given once daily for 10-14 days.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
