Precautions and warnings

Dutasteride can be present in semen, so using a condom during sexual activity is advised. Women who could become pregnant should not handle broken or leaking dutasteride capsules. Before beginning treatment, it’s important to make sure the patient does not have prostate cancer. Blood donation should be avoided while taking this drug and for at least six months after stopping it.

Drug Interactions

Taking tamsulosin with moderate or strong inhibitors of CYP2D6 (like fluoxetine) or CYP3A4 (like ketoconazole or cimetidine) can raise the levels of tamsulosin in your blood. Similarly, using dutasteride along with drugs that block CYP3A4 or CYP3A5—such as ritonavir, ketoconazole, verapamil, diltiazem, cimetidine, troleandomycin, or ciprofloxacin—can also increase the amount of dutasteride in your blood.

Contraindications

Do not use if you are allergic to this medicine, have serious liver problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are a child or teenager.

Mode of actions

Tamsulosin is a medication that specifically blocks alpha-1 adrenoceptors, which are found in large numbers in the prostate, prostatic capsule, prostatic urethra, and bladder neck. By blocking these receptors, tamsulosin helps relax the muscles in these areas, making it easier to urinate and reducing symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy, or BPH).

Dutasteride is another medication that works by blocking an enzyme called 5 alpha-reductase. This enzyme turns testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that mainly causes the prostate to grow. By lowering DHT levels, dutasteride helps reduce prostate enlargement.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: Per tab contains tamsulosin 0.4 mg and dutasteride 0.5 mg: 1 tab once daily.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine must not be used during pregnancy. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict two effective types of birth control starting one month before and during treatment and for three years after stopping this medicine. Discuss with your doctors if you are not sure which types of birth control are effective for you. You must need to take pregnancy tests regularly during your treatment with this medicine and for at least three years after taking this medicine. If it seems that you do become pregnant stop taking this medicine and call your doctor immediately. If you really become pregnant, miss a menstrual period, or have sex without using two forms of birth control. In some cases, your doctor can prescribe emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy. People on this medicine should not donate blood during the treatment and for three years afterward.

This medicine is also contraindicated breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication and for three years afterward.
