Precautions and warnings

Keep away from eyes and do not use under bandages that don’t let air in. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before use.

Contraindications

People who are allergic to this treatment, have thyroid problems, or are taking lithium should be careful when using it for a long time. Extra care is needed if the medicine is regularly applied to broken skin, especially in patients who already have kidney problems. If you are taking lithium, you should avoid using this medicine regularly.

Mode of actions

Povidone-iodine is a type of antiseptic that kills many kinds of germs, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and spores. It works by breaking down cell parts and attaching iodine to proteins, which stops them from working.

Dosage & Administration

Pre-operative scrubbing & washing: Wet hands with water, then pour 5 ml of solution onto the palm and spread over both the hands, rub the scrub over the entire area for about 2 mintues, add water to develope copious suds, rinse throughly under running water.

Pre- and post-operative skin cleansing: After the skin is shaved and wet with water, apply surgical scrub & rub throughly for minimum 2 mintues, rinse of with the sterile gauze saturated with water.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
