Loteprednol Etabonate 0.5% Eye prep Similar medicine
- Shake the bottle well before using it.
- Make sure the dropper tip does not touch your eye, eyelid, fingers, or any surface to avoid contamination.
- Do not wear soft contact lenses while using this medicine.
- If you use this product for 10 days or more, your eye pressure should be checked regularly.
- Long-term use of steroids can cause fungal infections in the cornea, so this should be watched for.
- Steroid use may also slow down wound healing.
Like other eye corticosteroids, Lotepro should not be used if you have most viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva. This includes conditions like herpes simplex keratitis (also called dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and chickenpox (varicella). It is also not safe for people with tuberculosis or fungal infections in the eye.
Additionally, you should not use Lotepro if you are allergic or may be allergic to any of its ingredients or to other corticosteroid medicines.
Loteprednol is a man-made steroid that does not contain fluoride. It works by increasing the production of certain proteins called lipocortins, which help control inflammation by affecting substances in the body called prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Steroid responsive disease treatment:
Apply 1 to 2 drops of Lotepro into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) four times daily. During the initial treatment within the first week, the dosing may be increased, up to 1 drop every hour, if necessary. Care should be taken not to discontinue therapy prematurely.
Post-Operative Inflammation:
Apply 1 to 2 drops of Lotepro into the conjunctival sac of the operated eye(s) four times daily beginning 24 hours after surgery and continuing throughout the first 2 weeks of the post-operative period.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
