Precautions and warnings
Use caution in people with epilepsy, elderly individuals, and those doing tasks that need mental alertness. Also be careful in conditions like angle-closure glaucoma, blockage in the stomach or intestines, urinary tract blockage, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), increased pressure inside the eye, heart disease, severe asthma, and during pregnancy.

- urinary retention; GI disturbances; blood dyscrasias.
Drug Interactions
Masks the harmful ear effects (ototoxicity) caused by aminoglycoside antibiotics. Makes levodopa less effective by breaking it down faster in the stomach and slowing its absorption by delaying stomach emptying. Reduces the effectiveness of cholinergic medications, like tacrine and donepezil, as well as certain antipsychotics. Herbal supplements such as valerian, St. John’s wort, Kava Kava, and gotu kola can increase drowsiness or sedation.
**Danger:**
Mixing with alcohol, barbiturates, painkillers, sleeping pills, and antipsychotics can dangerously increase drowsiness or depression of the central nervous system. When taken with MAOIs, atropine, or tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), it can also increase antimuscarinic side effects.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity ; neonates, lactation.
Mode of actions
Diphenhydramine works by blocking H1 histamine receptors found in the digestive system, blood vessels, and airways. It can make you feel sleepy and also has some effects similar to medicines that block acetylcholine (anticholinergic effects).
Dosage & Administration
Oral
Adult: As hydrochloride: 25-50 mg 3-4 times daily. Max: 300 mg/day.
Child: 6.25-25 mg 3-4 times daily, up to 5 mg/kg in divided doses. Max: 300 mg/day.
Treatment and prophylaxis of motion sickness
Adult: As diphenhydramine di (acefyllinate): Usual dose: 90-135 mg, may repeat if needed at intervals of at least 6 hr. Max: 540 mg daily. For prevention, dose to be given at least 30 min before travelling.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.

There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. Discuss with your doctor before breastfeeding.
