Precautions and warnings

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have ever had diabetes, joint problems, kidney problems, mental disorders like depression, a certain muscle condition, nerve problems, seizure disorder, blood vessel problems like aneurysm or blockage of the aorta or other blood vessels, artery hardening, high blood pressure, or certain genetic conditions before taking this medication.

Levofloxacin has been linked to a heart rhythm disorder. It can induce dangerous tachycardia and other symptoms like severe dizziness and fainting, which require immediate medical intervention.

If you have certain medical conditions or are using other drugs that may cause heart problems, your risk of developing an abnormal heart rhythm may be raised. Tell your doctor about all of your medications and if you have any of the following conditions: certain heart issues, sluggish heartbeat, or a family history of certain heart problems before using levofloxacin.

Low potassium or magnesium levels in the blood might also put you at risk for an irregular heartbeat. If you use certain drugs, such as diuretics or water tablets, or if you have disorders like extreme sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting, this risk may increase. Consult your doctor about the safe use of levofloxacin.

This medication may cause you to feel dizzy or lightheaded. You may become dizzy if you consume alcohol or use cannabis. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any other activity that requires attentiveness until you are sure you can do so safely. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. If you use cannabis, talk to your doctor.

This drug could make you more sun-sensitive. Spend as little time as possible in the sun. Sunlamps and tanning booths should be avoided. When you're outside, use sunscreen and wear protective gear. If you get sunburned or notice skin redness, call your doctor right away.

Live bacterial vaccinations, such as the typhoid vaccine, may be affected by levofloxacin. Unless your doctor advises otherwise, do not get any immunizations while using this medicine.

Drug Interactions

Strontium is a substance that may interact with this medication.

Ofloxacin and levofloxacin are fairly similar antibiotics. When taking levofloxacin, avoid taking any ofloxacin-containing drugs.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient to levofloxacin or other quinolones especially for Children.

Mode of actions

The enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination, bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, are inhibited by levofloxacin. It exhibits efficacy against a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive germs in Vitamin.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: PO/IV Acute sinusitis 500 mg once daily for 10-14 days. Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis 500 mg once daily for 7 days.

Community-acquired pneumonia 500 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Uncomplicatd skin infections 500 mg once daily for 7-10 days. Nosocomial pneumonia; Complicated skin infections 750 mg once daily for 7-14 days.

Uncomplicated UTI 250 mg once daily for 3 days. Acute pyelonephritis; Complicated UTI 250 mg once daily for 10 days. Chronic bacterial prostatitis 500 mg once daily for 28 days. Treatment and postexposure prophylaxis of inhalation anthrax 500 mg once daily for 60 days.

Children
- Children 6 months to 5 years:10 mg/kg every 24 hours

Renal impairment: Haemodialysis/CAPD: Initially, 500 mg daily, then 250 mg every 48 hr. Alternatively: Initially, 750 mg daily, then 500 mg every 48 hr.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
