- dizziness. Potentially Fatal: Myelosuppression (high doses).
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine and phenytoin lower the amount of this drug in the blood. Cimetidine increases the amount of this drug in the blood.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Infants and children
Mode of actions
Mebendazole works by stopping the formation of microtubules in parasitic worms. It specifically and permanently blocks these worms from absorbing glucose and other nutrients. As a result, the worms use up their stored energy (glycogen) and eventually die.
Dosage & Administration
100 mg tablet and suspension have the same dosage schedule applies to Adults & Children: Enterobiasis : A single tablet or 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of the suspension.
Ascariasis, Ancylostomiasis, Trichuriasis : 2 tablets in two divided doses for 3 consecutive days or 2 teaspoonful (10 ml) in two divided doses for 3 consecutive days.
Taeniasis & strongyloidiasis : Adults : 2 tablets twice daily for 3 consecutive days. Children: 1 tablet or 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) twice daily for 3 consecutive days.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
