Xylovin 0.1% is indicated for
- Sinusitis
- Nasal congestion
- Seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis
Precautions and warnings
Using decongestants for too long or too often can cause your nose to become even more congested, a condition known as rebound congestion or drug-induced rhinitis.
Side-effects
- No serious side effects have been reported. Occasional irritation of the nasal mucosa may occur during the first day of use. In rare cases with Sodium Cromoglicate solutions alone wheezing
- tightness of the chest has been reported. Because a lower dose of Xylometazoline is employed in this preparation it causes mild side effects such as nasal irritation
- dryness of the nose
- sneezing
- headache
- insomnia
- drowsiness
- palpitations.
Drug Interactions
Sibutramine can cause your heart rate and blood pressure to go up.
Danger: Taking it with MAOIs can cause a life-threatening increase in blood pressure.
Contraindications
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Mode of actions
Xylometazoline is a medicine that works directly to narrow blood vessels. When used on mucous membranes, it reduces swelling and congestion by making the blood vessels smaller.
Dosage & Administration
Adults (including the elderly) and children: One spray each nostril four times daily.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
