Using this medication together with sulphonylureas (which can cause low blood sugar) may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, so lowering the dose of sulphonylureas might be necessary. This medicine may also affect your ability to drive or use machines. Use with caution in children, people over 75 years old, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Patients who have ever had an allergic reaction to linagliptin—like hives, swelling, or trouble breathing—should not use this medication. It is also not suitable for people with type 1 diabetes or for treating diabetic ketoacidosis.
A DPP-4 inhibitor is a medicine that blocks the DPP-4 enzyme, making incretin hormones last longer and work better. Incretins help control blood sugar by telling the pancreas to make more insulin and release less glucagon. Insulin lowers blood sugar, while glucagon raises it.
Adults: Recommended Dose: 5 mg once daily.
When linagliptin is added to metformin, the dose of metformin should be maintained and linagliptin administered concomitantly.
When linagliptin is used in combination with a sulphonylurea, a lower dose of the sulphonylurea may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Special Population: Renal Impairment: No dose adjustment.
Hepatic Impairment: Pharmacokinetics studies suggest that no dose adjustment is required for patients with hepatic impairment.
Elderly: No dose adjustment is necessary based on age. However, clinical experience in patients >75 years is limited.
Children: The safety and efficacy of linagliptin in paediatric population has not yet been established. No data are available.
Administration:It can be taken with or without a meal at any time of the day.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.
