Predflam is indicated for
- Conjunctivitis
- steroid-responsive inflammation of the palpebral
- bulbar conjunctiva
- cornea
- anterior segment of the globe.
Precautions and warnings
Using corticosteroids for a long time can harm the optic nerve and cause vision problems. If you need to use this product for an extended period, your eye pressure should be checked regularly.
Side-effects
- Ophthalmic: Raised IOP
- reduced visual function with possible development of glaucoma
- infrequent optic nerve damage
- posterior subcapsular cataract formation
- delayed wound healing. Fungal
- viral infections of the cornea are particularly may develop coincidentally with long-term applications of steroid.
Contraindications
Live vaccines; herpes simplex keratitis, systemic infections.
Mode of actions
Prednisolone reduces inflammation by stopping certain white blood cells (polymorphonuclear leukocytes) from moving to the affected area and by reversing the increased leakiness of blood vessels. It also weakens the immune system by lowering the number and activity of specific cells called lymphocytes and eosinophils.
Dosage & Administration
Conjunctivitis
Adult: As 1% : Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 2-4 times daily. Higher frequency may be used during the initial 24-48 hr, if needed. Re-evaluate if there is no improvement after 2 days of treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
