Do not use if the patient is allergic to neomycin or polymyxin. Do not give the vaccine into a blood vessel or into the skin. Wait to vaccinate if the patient has a severe fever or illness. Do not vaccinate if, within 48 hours of a previous dose, the patient had a temperature over 40°C, collapsed, went into shock, or had uncontrollable crying lasting more than 3 hours. Do not vaccinate if there were convulsions (with or without fever) within 3 days of a previous dose. Avoid vaccination in people with ongoing neurological problems, such as infantile spasms, uncontrolled epilepsy, or progressive brain disease. Serious allergic reactions and fainting may occur. Use caution in patients with low platelet counts or bleeding problems. If there is a history of febrile convulsions, use caution. For very premature infants (born before 28 weeks) or those with a history of breathing problems, consider the risk of apnea and monitor breathing for 48–72 hours after vaccination. Also, note that urine tests for HIB infection may show a false positive result 1–2 weeks after the vaccine.
Allergic reactions. Brain problems (encephalopathy) of unknown cause that happen within 7 days after getting a previous vaccine that contains pertussis (whooping cough).
The vaccine helps protect against diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), hepatitis B, polio, and HIB. It works by making your body produce its own antibodies, which give you active immunity to these illnesses. This means your immune system learns how to fight these infections if you are exposed to them in the future.
Deep IM inj Primary vaccination 3 or 2 doses of 0.5 mL w/ at least 1-mth interval between doses.
Replacement for hepatitis B vaccine in infants who received 1st dose at birth, supplementary doses given from >6 wk.
Booster vaccination Given at least 6 mth after last priming dose between 11 & 13 mth of age (after 2 doses) or before 18 mth of age (after 3 doses).
FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.
Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.
If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.
There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
