Drug Interactions

Some medicines can make the effects stronger, such as: oral diabetes medications, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, MAOIs, propoxyphene, salicylates, somatostatin analogs (like octreotide), and sulfonamide antibiotics.

Other medicines can make the effects weaker, including: corticosteroids, niacin, danazol, diuretics, sympathomimetic drugs, isoniazid, phenothiazines, somatropin, thyroid hormones, birth control pills, and lithium.

Also, some drugs—like beta-blockers and clonidine—can hide the signs of low blood sugar.

Mode of actions

Insulin glargine is a long-acting form of human insulin. It helps control how the body uses carbohydrates, proteins, and fats by stopping the liver from making too much glucose and breaking down fats, while also helping the body’s cells absorb more glucose from the blood.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: SC For insulin-naive patients: May initiate w/ 10 IU once daily, adjust subsequently based on glycaemic response. Usual range: 2-100 IU/day.
Child: >6 yr: According to requirements; administer once daily at the same time each day.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
