This medication has the potential to make you dizzy. You may become dizzy if you consume alcohol or use cannabis. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any other activity that requires attentiveness until you are sure you can do so safely. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. If you use cannabis, talk to your doctor.
This drug has the potential to raise your potassium levels. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking potassium supplements or salt replacements that include potassium.
Aliskiren, lithium, and medications that raise potassium levels in the blood are some of the products that may interact with this medication.
Some items contain substances that can elevate blood pressure or exacerbate heart failure. Tell your pharmacist what items you're using and how to use them safely, especially cough-and-cold remedies, diet aids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen.
Potentially fatal: In patients with diabetes and kidney illness, aliskiren may have a nephrotoxic, hyperkalaemic, and hypotensive impact (GFR)
Patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or any other component of the medicine should not take losartan potassium.
An angiotensin II receptor antagonist is losartan. It specifically and competitively suppresses angiotensin II's vasoconstricting and aldosterone-secreting actions via antagonizing AT1 receptor binding.
Hypertension: The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. In patients with possible depletion of intravascular volume or patients with a history of hepatic impairment, starting dose is 25 mg once daily.
Losartan can be administered once or twice daily with total daily doses ranging from 25 mg to 100 mg. No initial dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly or renal impairment patients.
Stroke risk reduction of hypertensive or LVH patients: Starting dose of Losartan is 50 mg once daily. Maximum dose upto 100 mg once daily.
Diabetic Nephropathy: Starting dose of Losartan is 50 mg once daily. Maximum dose: 100 mg once daily.
Heart Failure: Starting dose 12.5 mg once daily. The dose should generally be titrated at weekly intervals to maximum dose of 50 mg once daily.
If blood pressure is not controlled by Losartan, a low dose of a diuretic (Hydrochlorothiazide) may be added.
Chronic heart failure: 12.5 mg once daily, increased at weekly intervals to 50 mg once daily if tolerated, Stroke risk reduction in hypertension & LVH: 50 mg once daily. Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg daily should added.
Maximum dose-Losartan 100 mg followed by Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.
Nephropathy in type 2 Diabetes: 50 mg once daily. Maximum dose-100 mg once daily.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
