Sucralfate Similar medicine
People with chronic kidney failure can develop aluminum toxicity throughout their body. This risk is also important to consider in newborns, children, pregnant women, and those who are breastfeeding.
Do not take antacids within 30 minutes before or after taking sucralfate. Sucralfate can reduce the absorption of certain medicines, such as tetracyclines, ranitidine, ketoconazole, theophylline, phenytoin, cimetidine, and digoxin. To avoid this, make sure to wait at least 2 hours between taking sucralfate and these other medicines (except antacids, which should be separated by 30 minutes).
Sucralfate protects the lining of the digestive tract from stomach acid, pepsin, and bile salts. It does this by sticking to positively charged proteins in the injured area, forming a thick, sticky coating that acts as a protective barrier.
