Sulphacetamide Sodium 10% Eye prep Similar medicine
Older adults and people with a history of allergies, asthma, G6PD deficiency, or kidney and liver problems should use caution. If using this medication for a long time, regular blood tests (CBC) and urine tests are needed. Make sure to drink enough fluids. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed with a doctor.
PABA and local anesthetics like procaine can interfere with the action of sulfonamides. In cases where there is pus in the eye, PABA (which is found in the pus) can compete with and reduce the effectiveness of sulfacetamide.
Sulfacetamide stops the growth of many types of bacteria, both gram-positive and gram-negative. It works by interfering with how bacteria make nucleic acids, preventing the conversion of PABA into dihydrofolic acid, an important coenzyme for the bacteria.

Adult: As sodium: Apply 10-30% eye drops or 10% ointment into the affected eye/s. May be used up to tid.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
