Sulphacetamide’s effect can be blocked by substances like PABA and local anaesthetics in the procaine group. In cases where there is pus in the eye, PABA in the discharge can compete with and reduce the effectiveness of sulphacetamide.
Sulfacetamide works by stopping the growth of many types of bacteria, both gram-positive and gram-negative.
