Precautions and warnings

Diabetic nephropathy, renal or hepatic failure. Hypoglycemia and hyperthyroidism symptoms may be hidden. It is suggested that you withdraw gradually from Children and Lactation.

Drug Interactions

Digitalis glycosides increase the risk of bradycardia. Along with epinephrine, it can produce mydriasis. Oral calcium channel blockers, adrenergic blockers, antiarrhythmics (including amiodarone), parasympathomimetics, and guanethidine may have an additive effect. Peripheral muscle relaxants increase the risk of myocardial depression and hypotension (for example, tubocurarine).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Overt heart failure, sinus bradycardia, cardiogenic shock.

Mode of actions

Betaxolol is a cardioselective Beta-blocker with a higher affinity for 1-receptors and little to no action on 2-receptors. It doesn't have any intrinsic sympathomimetic properties, although it does have some membrane-stabilizing properties. It also decreases the production of aqueous humor, which lowers intraocular pressure.

Dosage & Administration

Ophthalmic
Open-angle glaucoma
Adult: Instil 1 drop of 0.25% or 0.5% solution bid.

Ocular hypertension
Adult: Instil 1 drop of 0.25% or 0.5% solution bid.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
