Optafresh is indicated for
- Dry eye
- Burning
- irritation of the eye
Precautions and warnings
If you have blurred vision after using this product, do not drive or operate machines until your vision returns to normal. Do not wear contact lenses while putting in this product. Wait at least 30 minutes after using the product before putting your contact lenses back in.
Side-effects
- Occasionally mild-transient burning or sticky sensation
- very rarely irritation or hypersensitivity reactions reported. Blurred vision after application may occur.
Drug Interactions
Dextran: Medicines that increase enzyme activity, like phenytoin or carbamazepine, and those that decrease enzyme activity, like cimetidine, can affect dextran.
Sodium Chloride: It may change the amount of lithium in the blood.
Contraindications
Do not use these eye drops if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the product.
Mode of actions
Dextrans help increase the amount of plasma in the blood. They also make the blood less thick and prevent red blood cells from sticking together or clumping.
Dosage & Administration
1 drop 4 times daily or as required, depending upon the severity of the disease, to be instilled into the conjunctival sac.
Pregnancy & Lactation
FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.
Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.
If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.
There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
