Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan Medoxomil Similar medicine
Medications that affect the renin-angiotensin system can harm or even cause the death of an unborn baby if taken during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. If pregnancy is discovered, stop taking Olmesartan medoxomil as soon as possible. People who have low body fluid or low salt levels may feel dizzy or have low blood pressure. In rare cases, the medicine can cause little or no urine output, increasing waste in the blood, or sudden kidney failure. Those with narrow arteries in their kidneys (renal artery stenosis) have a higher risk of severe low blood pressure and kidney problems. Use with caution in people with kidney problems; regularly check kidney function and potassium levels. Do not use in people with severe kidney (creatinine clearance less than 20 mL/min) or severe liver problems. Be careful in patients with heart valve diseases or thickening of the heart muscle. This medicine may not work well for people with primary aldosteronism. It is also not recommended for use during breastfeeding.
**Olmesartan medoxomil:**
- Taking this medication with aliskiren can raise the risk of low blood pressure, high potassium levels, and kidney problems.
- Using NSAIDs at the same time may cause your kidney function to get worse.
- NSAIDs can also make Olmesartan less effective at lowering blood pressure.
- Colesevelam HCl can lower how much Olmesartan gets absorbed into your body and reduce its peak levels.
**Hydrochlorothiazide:**
- This drug can increase the risk of dizziness and low blood pressure when taken with alcohol, sleeping pills, or narcotics.
- It can interact with diabetes medications.
- The blood-pressure-lowering effect is stronger if used with other similar medicines.
- Cholestyramine and colestipol resins can reduce how much Hydrochlorothiazide your body absorbs.
- Steroids and ACTH may make you lose more electrolytes.
- The effect of some drugs for raising blood pressure (like norepinephrine) may be reduced.
- You may have a stronger response to muscle relaxants (like tubocurarine).
- It can also decrease how quickly lithium is removed from the body, increasing the risk of side effects.
Pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters); biliary obstruction.
Hydrochlorothiazide works by stopping the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the kidneys’ distal tubules. This leads to the body getting rid of more sodium, water, potassium, and hydrogen ions in the urine.
Olmesartan is a medication that blocks a specific receptor (AT1) for angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and increases blood pressure. By blocking this effect, olmesartan relaxes the blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and helps the heart get more blood and oxygen.
