Precautions and warnings

Heart failure has been compensated. Angina pectoris, acute MI, diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular diseases, hepatic and renal dysfunction, elderly patients, children Lactation. If atenolol and clonidine are co-administered, clonidine should be gradually tapered off a few days after atenolol.

Drug Interactions

Concurrent administration of reserpine may result in hypotension and bradycardia. Ca channel blockers, hydralazine, and methyldopa are all additives. Along with verapamil and diltiazem, there is an increased risk of bradycardia and heart block. Along with NSAIDs, it may help to reduce hypotensive symptoms (for example, indomethacin). Disopyramide, amiodarone, or digitalis glycosides have a stronger bradycardic impact. When clonidine is stopped, it might cause rebound hypertension.

Contraindications

Patient with Hypersensitivity: Sinus bradycardia, sinus node dysfunction, less than 1st-degree heart block, compensated cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, bronchospastic illnesses, and peripheral vascular disorders are all examples of sinus bradycardia.

Mode of actions

Atenolol is a cardioselective beta1-blocker that has no impact on beta2-receptors until used at large doses. It lowers myocardial contractility and reduces resting and exercise-induced heart rates.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: PO HTN 25-100 mg/day.
Angina pectoris; Migraine prophylaxis 50-100 mg/day. Max for angina pectoris: 200 mg/day.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
