Dose decrease or withdrawal over time. Dependence. Patients who are elderly or disabled. Muscle weakness, hepatic or renal impairment; arteriosclerosis; obesity; depression, especially suicidal ideation; chronic pulmonary insufficiency It's possible that it'll affect your capacity to drive or operate machinery.

Drug Interactions

Alcohol and CNS depressants are amplified by this compound. Conc with cigarette smoking was reduced by 50%.

Cimetidine and fluoxetine impair alprazolam clearance, which can be fatal. Imipramine and desipramine are both enhanced by alprazolam.

Contraindications

Preexisting CNS depression or coma, resp depression, acute pulmonary insufficiency or sleep apnea; severe hepatic impairment; pregnancy, lactation.

Mode of actions

Anxiolytic, muscle-relaxant, anticonvulsant, antidepressant and sleep-modifying properties are all properties of alprazolam. Does it bind to? aminobutyric acid (GABA)-specific sites throughout the CNS, causing GABA's inhibitory effect on neuronal excitability to be increased. Hyperpolarisation and stabilization come from increased neuronal permeability to chloride ions.

Dosage & Administration

Oral
Short-term management of anxiety
Adult: 0.25-0.5 mg tid, increased to 3-4 mg daily if necessary.
Elderly: Initially, 0.25 mg bid/tid.
Hepatic impairment: Avoid in severe impairment.

Panic attacks
Adult: Up to 10 mg daily.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
