Precautions and warnings

Patients with mild to severe renal failure or mild hypercalciuria need to be closely monitored. Patients with mild to moderate renal failure or mild hypercalciuria should have their plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion checked on a regular basis. Urinary Calcium excretion should be assessed in patients with a history of renal stones to rule out hypercalciuria.

Long-term treatment should be monitored for serum and urine calcium levels, as well as kidney function, and medication should be reduced or stopped if urinary calcium reaches 7.5 mmol/24 hours.

Drug Interactions

Calcium carbonate: When used with thiazide diuretics or vitamin D, milk-alkali syndrome and hypercalcemia might occur. Corticosteroids cause a decrease in absorption. Tetracyclines, atenolol, iron, quinolones, alendronate, Na fluoride, Zn, and calcium-channel blockers are all reduced in absorption. Enhances the effects of digitalis glycosides on the heart and may lead to digitalis intoxication.

Calcium gluconate: When high calcium doses are combined with thiazide diuretics, milk-alkali syndrome and hypercalcemia can occur. Digoxin toxicity may be exacerbated. Calcium-channel blockers' effects are reduced. Calcitriol improves absorption (a vitamin D metabolite).

Vitamin C: deferoxamine, hormonal contraceptives, fluphenazine, warfarin, elemental iron, salicylates, warfarin, fluphenazine, disulfiram, mexiletine, vitamin B12. Vitamin B12: deferoxamine, hormonal contraceptives, fluphenazine, warfarin, elemental iron, salicylates, warfarin, fluphenazine, disulfiram, mexiletine, vitamin B12.

Contraindications

Hypercalcemia caused by myeloma, bone metastases, or other malignant bone disorders, sarcoidosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, and Vitamin-D overdosage is all absolute contraindications. It's also not recommended if you have severe renal failure or are allergic to any of the tablet's ingredients.

Mode of actions

Calcium carbonate helps to prevent or reverse a negative calcium balance. It also aids in the performance of nerves and muscles, as well as regular cardiac function. Cofactor in enzymatic activities; required for neurotransmission, muscle contraction, and a variety of signal transduction pathways.

Vitamin C is required for the creation of collagen and tissue repair; it also plays a role in oxidation/reduction reactions and other metabolic pathways, such as the synthesis of catecholamines, carnitine, and steroids; and it aids in the conversion of folic acid to folinic acid.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and children above 7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily.
Children 3 to 7 years : 1/2 effervescent tablet daily,
Infants : As prescribed by the physician. Dissolve one tablet in half glass (100 ml) of water.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
