Other drugs may interfere with theophylline's elimination from your body, causing theophylline to operate differently. Cimetidine, interferon, disulfiram, rifampin, fluvoxamine, ticlopidine, propranolol, seizure medications, mexiletine, and viloxazine are just a few examples.
This medication's blood levels are reduced when you smoke cigarettes or use cannabis. If you smoke or have recently stopped smoking, tell your doctor.
Caffeine and alcohol can exacerbate the medication's adverse effects. Avoid consuming significant amounts of alcoholic or caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, tea, and colas, eating big amounts of chocolate, or taking nonprescription caffeine-containing items.
Aminophylline and oxtriphylline are quite similar to theophylline. When taking theophylline, avoid taking any drugs that contain aminophylline or oxtriphylline.
Avoid this medicine if you have hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.
Theophylline inhibits phosphodiesterase, inducing bronchodilation, diuresis, CNS and heart stimulation, and gastric acid secretion via increasing cAMP tissue concentrations.
Adult: PO: usually controlled release tablet 12 hourly or as directed by the physicians. 10-15mg/Kg/day, 2 times daily.
Child:
1-6 months: 10mg/Kg/day,
6 m-1 year: 15mg/Kg/day,
1-9 years: 24mg/Kg/day,
10-l6 years: 18mg/Kg/day, in divided doses.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
