People with long-term kidney problems, heart failure, swelling (oedema), liver cirrhosis, or who are on low-salt diets, as well as those who have recently had stomach or intestinal bleeding, should use caution. Take this medication 2-3 hours before or after any other medicines to avoid interactions. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if advised by a doctor.
Citrates or ascorbic acid can help the body absorb this medicine better. However, it can reduce the absorption of several other drugs, including allopurinol, tetracyclines, quinolones, cephalosporins, bisphosphonates, corticosteroids, cyclosporin, delavirdine, iron supplements, imidazole antifungals, isoniazid, mycophenolate, penicillamine, phosphate supplements, phenytoin, phenothiazines, and trientine.
Hypersensitivity to aluminium salts.
Aluminum hydroxide neutralizes stomach acid (HCl) by reacting with it to produce aluminum chloride and water.

Adult: Up to 1 g daily.

Hyperphosphataemia in patients with chronic renal failure
Adult: Dose is adjusted to the individual patient's requirement. Up to 10 g/day may be given in divided doses with meals.
Max Dosage: 10 g daily in divided doses.
May be taken with or without food.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
