Precautions and warnings

Use this medicine carefully if you have any of the following conditions:
- Allergies to other medicines
- Kidney, liver, or heart problems, or issues with fluid retention
- Blood disorders, lupus, or mixed connective tissue disease

Side-effects

  • As with all medicines
  • Dexketoprofen may cause some unwanted effects in some patients. These are described below
  • are characteristic of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: - Common (1 - 10%): nausea
  • vomiting

  • stomach pain or heartburn. - Uncommon (0.1 - 1%): sleep disorders
  • nervousness

  • dry mouth
  • flatulence
  • skin rash
  • fatigue
  • hot flushes
  • shivering
  • general malaise. - Rare (0.01-0.1%): stomach ulceration
  • gastric haemorrhage or perforation
  • pins
  • needles
  • high blood pressure
  • water retention
  • slowed breathing rate
  • increased hepatic enzymes
  • increased sweating. - Very rare / isolated cases (

Drug Interactions

Using this medication together with other NSAIDs increases the chance of stomach ulcers and bleeding. It can also raise the risk of bleeding when taken with blood thinners, like oral anticoagulants or heparin. If you take lithium, this medicine can increase lithium levels in your blood, which may become dangerous. High doses of methotrexate (over 15 mg per week) can cause more serious blood problems when taken with this medication. It can also make the side effects of hydantoins and sulphonamides worse. When combined with anticoagulants, there’s a greater risk of bleeding and damage to the stomach lining. Lastly, it can make sulfonylurea medicines lower blood sugar even more, increasing the risk of low blood sugar.

Contraindications

Dexketoprofen tablets should not be used by people who:

- Are allergic to this medicine, any of its ingredients, aspirin, or other anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Have ever had asthma attacks, trouble breathing, a runny or blocked nose, nasal polyps, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or eyes, or difficulty breathing after taking aspirin or similar drugs.
- Have or have had stomach ulcers or long-term stomach or intestinal problems.
- Have had bleeding in the stomach or intestines in the past.
- Have asthma.
- Have serious heart problems, moderate to severe kidney disease, or serious liver problems.
- Have a bleeding or blood clotting problem, or are taking blood-thinning medications.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Mode of actions

Dexketoprofen has anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and fever-reducing effects. It works by strongly blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which leads to a decrease in the production of prostaglandins.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: PO Rheumatic disorders 100-200 mg/day in 2-4 divided doses. Max: 300 mg/day in divided doses. Pain and inflammation 25-50 mg 6-8 hrly. Max: 300 mg/day.

IM Pain and inflammation associated w/ musculoskeletal and joint disorders; Pain following orthopaedic surgery 50-100 mg by deep inj into the gluteal muscle 4 hrly. Max: 200 mg/24 hr for up to 3 days.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
