Precautions and warnings

If you have specific medical conditions, you should not take this drug. If you have heart difficulties, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, or severe heart failure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: liver disease, depression, emphysema, asthma, overactive thyroid disease, serious allergic reactions requiring epinephrine, a specific muscle disease, blood circulation problems, chronic bronchitis, or kidney disease.

This medication has the potential to make you dizzy. You may become dizzy if you consume alcohol or use cannabis. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any other activity that requires attentiveness until you are sure you can do so safely. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. If you use cannabis, talk to your doctor.

If you have diabetes, this medicine may help you disguise the rapid heartbeat that occurs when your blood sugar drops too low. This medication has little effect on other symptoms of low blood sugar, such as dizziness and sweating. This product may also make it more difficult to keep your blood sugar under control. Check your blood sugar as prescribed and inform your doctor of the results. If you have symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst or urine, call your doctor straight away. Your diabetic medication, exercise routine, or diet may need to be adjusted by your doctor.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and nonprescription medications you're taking, including herbal items, before using this drug, especially if you're taking fingolimod.

Ingredients in certain items may cause your heart rate or blood pressure to rise. Tell your pharmacist about the products you're using and how to use them safely, including cough and cold remedies, diet supplements, and NSAIDs.

Contraindications

Patients with cardiogenic shock, overt cardiac failure, second or third degree AV block and marked sinus bradycardia.

Mode of actions

Bisoprolol selectively and competitively blocks on 1-receptors but has little or no effect on 2-receptors except at high doses.

Dosage & Administration

The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. In some patients, 2.5 mg may be an appropriate starting dose. If the antihypertensive effect of 5 mg is inadequate, the dose may be increased to 10 mg and then, if necessary, to 20 mg once daily.

For heart failure: Initially 1.25 mg once daily (in the morning) for 1 week then, if well tolerated, increased to 2.5 mg once daily for 1 week, then 3.75 mg once daily for 1 week, then 5 mg once daily for 4 weeks, then 7.5 mg once daily for 4 weeks, then 10 mg once daily; max. 10 mg daily.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
