Precautions and warnings

This medicine may sometimes cause unexpected tightening of the airways (paradoxical bronchospasm). Use it carefully in people who are sensitive to drugs called sympathomimetics. Be cautious in patients with heart or blood vessel problems, as this medicine can increase blood pressure, heart rate, and the risk of abnormal heart rhythms. People with diabetes should have their blood sugar levels checked while using this medicine. Potassium levels in the blood should also be monitored, especially if the patient is taking xanthines, steroids, or diuretics at the same time. Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), enlarged prostate, trouble urinating, seizure disorders, or problems with kidney or liver function. This medicine’s safety and effectiveness in children have not been proven.

Drug Interactions

Taking this with psychotropic medications can increase anticholinergic side effects. It may also make propranolol less effective. When combined with MAOIs, TCAs, or amphetamines, it can raise the risk of heart-related side effects like fast heartbeat and palpitations.

Contraindications

Allergy to soy lecithin or similar foods like peanuts.

Mode of actions

Ipratropium bromide is a type of medicine called an anticholinergic. It works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a chemical in the body that can cause the airways to narrow. By doing this, it stops signals that would normally make the muscles around the airways tighten. Salbutamol is another medicine that works directly on the muscles in the airways, helping them relax and open up, making it easier to breathe.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: Inhalation Per inhalation contains ipratropium bromide 18 mcg and salbutamol sulfate 103 mcg: 2 inhalations 4 times/day. Max: 12 inhalations/24 hr.

For nebulising solution (each 3 ml contains ipratropium bromide 0.5 mg and salbutamol base 2.5 mg): Initially, 3 ml every 6 hr. Max: 3 ml every 4 hr.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
