Do not use Cyclosporine eye drops while wearing contact lenses. Usually, people with low tear production should not wear contact lenses at all. If you do wear contacts, take them out before using the eye drops. You can put your contact lenses back in 15 minutes after using Cyclosporine eye drops.
Certain medicines can increase the level of ciclosporin in your body, such as diltiazem, doxycycline, erythromycin, ketoconazole, high-dose methylprednisolone, nicardipine, verapamil, and oral contraceptives. Other medicines, like carbamazepine, isoniazid, phenobarbitone, phenytoin, and rifampicin, can lower the level of ciclosporin.
Taking high-dose methylprednisolone and ciclosporin together can increase the risk of seizures.
**Warning:** Using ciclosporin with certain drugs—like aminoglycosides, amphotericin B, ciprofloxacin, colchicine, melphalan, co-trimoxazole, and NSAIDs—can seriously harm the kidneys.
Cyclosporine should not be used by people who have an active eye infection or who are allergic or may be allergic to any of the ingredients in the medicine.
Cyclosporin is a powerful medicine that weakens the immune system, mainly by targeting helper T-cells. It blocks the action of calcineurin and stops the production of interleukin-2, which lowers the immune response. Cyclosporin can also be used to reduce tear production in dry eye conditions like keratoconjunctivitis sicca by changing how the immune system works.
One drop of Cyclosporine eye drop should be instilled twice a day in each eye approximately 12 hours apart. Cyclosporine eye drop can be used concomitantly with artificial tears, allowing a 15-minute interval between products.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
